Captain Alvaro Neto – Flight Operations Director
Brazilian, age 40. Holds a Brazilian and UK JAA Airline Transport Pilot License with more than 12.000 logged flying hours on Commercial Aviation. He started his career with VARIG Airlines from 1989 to 2006 flying B737 (all models), B744, B767 and DC-10. VRG Airlines from 2006 to 2008 flying B737. Bachelor in Business Administration (1993-1997). Alvaro Neto is a Line instructor, Type rating instructor, Type rating Examiner (ANAC check airman qualified) B737-300/NG, UK Radiotelephony Operator License, English Proficiency Level 6 by UK CAA, Medical class I (Brazil and JAA). Insp. Antonio Pisco Carraça – Line Maintenance & Bases Manager
Portuguese, age 58. He holds an Aviation Technician degree at Liceu Salvador Correia de Sá, Luanda - Angola, and Airline Management Integration Program at IAMTI – Canada. Carraça started his career with TAAG in 1966. He started his career with VARIG in 1976 as a Junior Maintenance Inspector, Maintenance Senior Inspector, Inspector Team Leader, Chief Inspector, and Line Maintenance General Manager. In 2007 he was invited to join VARIGLOG as a Line Maintenance General Manager.
Capt. Ary Nunes – Chief Pilot
Brazilian, age 46. Holds a Brazilian Airline Transport Pilot License with more than 12.000 logged flying hours on Commercial Aviation. He started his career at VARIG in 1987 as pilot, instructor pilot and check airman, B737-200 & B737-300 Fleet Captain, Deputy Chief Pilot. Augusto Nunes started his carrer with Brazilian Air Force in 1980 (1st Lt.) with Aircraft Carrier operations (day/night), Anti-submarine Mission Command and Anti-submarine Mission Instructor. He is an Airline Transport Pilot with more than 12.000 logged flying hours on Commercial and Military Aviation. In 2004 he was responsible to implement and execute the FOQA Program in VARIG. In 2006 he was invited to join VRG (New VARIG/GOL) as a Safety Manager.
Eng. Antonio Flavio Martins Costa – Technical Director
Brazilian, age 56. Electrical Engineer, major in telecommunications, graduated at the Universidade Nuno Lisboa (RJ) in 1977 and Master in Logistics at the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC). He was the Maintenance Division Manager of VARIG Rio de Janeiro International Airport and VARIG Division of Avionics Manager in Rio de Janeiro. He also worked as technical representative with experience in receiving new aircrafts from BOEING and AIRBUS companies. He was Technical Director at PLUNA S/A. Later working as Operational Control Center – OCC General Manager, Flight Attendant General Manager and Technical Director of VARIG. He was Technical Director of OceanAir Airlines before join AZUL.
Mrs. Claudia Ramos – Technical Publications
She holds a Bachelor degree on Business Administration at Machado Sobrinho University. Claudia started her carrer with EMBRAER (USA) in 2006 as a Customer Support, responsible for the relationship manager for top client and account; primary contact for all requests from client. In 2007 she was invited to join JetBlue as a Technical Publications Analyst (Operations), responsible for evaluating and updating the JetBlue system with all technical publications from Embraer E190.
Eng. Eduardo Ramos – Technical Supply Chain Manager
He holds a Bachelor degree on Mechanical Engineer at São Paulo State University. Eduardo started his carrer with EMBRAER in 1986 as Production Engineer. He was the EMBRAER Account Manager supporting JetBlue Integration Team in FLL to spec the aircraft and define/conduct actions for entry into service. Coordinate overall field support to JetBlue. Main point of contact at EMBRAER for Engineering, Maintenance and Material Support issues.
Mr. Fabio Barros – Operational Control Center Manager
He holds a Bachelor degree on Business Administration at Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ), and MBA in Logistics at Coppead/UFRJ. Fabio Barros started his career with VARIG as planner of Crew Scheduling in 1988. Later working as Supervisor of Crew Scheduling, Supervisor of Flights Coordination, Manager of Flights Planning and Manager of Control and Planning at Operational Control Center - OCC. In 2003 he was responsible to redesign the Operational Control Center – OCC of VARIGLOG as a General Manager. In January 2008 he was invited to join OcenAir as a Superintendent of OCC.
Gianfranco “Panda” Beting – Marketing Director
Brazilian, aged 44, he studied architecture at the University of São Paulo (USP). He began his career as director of advertising design, and winning, over the course of his 26 year career, international awards in some of the most prestigious agencies in Brazil: ALMAP, W/Brasil, F/Nazca, DM9DDB. He was CEO of Transbrasil’s House Agency Intermarket. Subsequently, he took control of marketing, in-flight service and was VP at Transbrasil. In 2000, he created Jetgroup, a business specializing in marketing and communication aimed at the aviation sector. He contributed to specialized magazines and publications in 5 countries. He edits Jetsite, the largest Latin American specialist aviation website. Also an aviation photographer, he has some 350,000 photographs in his archives. As a specialized aviation journalist and consultant, he has flown with more than 120 airlines. He has published five books on commercial aviation.
Johannes Ayres Castellano – HR Director

Large professional experience achieved by carrying out senior executive functions in the operational and technical areas in air transportation and logistics companies, such as Judicial Manager/CEO at FLEX Airlines (VARIG’s Chapter 11), COO & Operational Exec Vice President at VARIG, Managing Director at VARIG CARGO (VARIGLOG), and Partner at Flight Plan Aviation Consultants. He was effective Member of IATA Cargo & Operations Executive Committees. Invited Professor of the Logistics Study Centers – CEL at Coppead/UFRJ and Professor of Logistics at Estácio de Sá University.
Paulo Nascimento – IT Director
Brazilian, Degree in Production Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (USP) and with an International Executive MBA from the USP’s Foundation Institute of Management at the College of Economics and Management (FIA/FEA USP), he has more than 15 years of experience in functions as Director and Manager in the areas of IT, Commercial, Logistics and Financial Control in companies such as Unilever, Cia. Renata started her carrer with EMBRAER in 2000 as Maintenance Plan Engineer, with more than five years as an engineer with a strong certification and in-service background. Skilled at leading and working within a team to develop the maintenance plan for a new generation of regional jets. Demonstrated ability to build rapport and resolve complex issues among clients and aviation regulatory authorities (FAA, CTA, EASA, TCCA). Excellent technical writing capability. Renato Covelo – Legal Director
Brazilian, aged 33, a Bachelor of Law from the United Metropolitan Faculties (FMU) and an MA in International Law from the University of São Paulo (USP), where his dissertation dealt with International Aeronautical Law. He is president of the São Paulo Section of the Brazilian Bar Association’s Aeronautical Law Committee. He developed his legal career by focusing on the aeronautical industry, having worked for nearly ten years in the legal office of Machado, Meyer, Sendacz e Opice Advogados. During this time, he took part in the most significant transactions in the Brazilian aeronautical industry and specialized in the import and operation of commercial aircraft, as well as in the regulation of commercial air transport. Since 2004, he has been elected by the English publication “Aviation Lawyers Expert Guides”, from the Euromoney Legal Media Group, as one of the principal specialist lawyers in Brazilian Aeronautical Law. He has published a number of articles in Brazil and overseas on the topic. He has held a Private Pilot’s License since 1998.
Eng. Reuel Matos Oliveira – Airworthiness Officer Manager
Brazilian, age 44. He holds a Bachelor degree on Aeronautical Engineering and MBA on Marketing and MBA on Operations Management. He started his career with VARIG in 1985. Reuel worked online maintenance as support engineer and manager for 15 years at GRU - Guarulhos Airport. In 2000 he was called to develop a Business Plan to spin-off an MRO provider (VEM) from parent-airline VARIG. In 2002 he was assigned as Director of Maintenance for VARIG and his primarily responsibility was to assure the airworthiness status of VARIG's fleet beyond Brazilian aeronautical authorities which allowed him tobuild a strong relationship among his peers in ANAC. In 2005 he was invited to join Goodrich (USA) as a Business Development Director in Brazil. As a vendor he worked closely with EMBRAER on the OEM lines and with Brazilian airlines and the military aviation on the aftermarket (services) lines. In 2007 he started a certification project for a ANAC-certified Goodrich repair station in Brazil to initially provide airline customers in South America with Goodrich OEM nacelles repair.
Eng. Wilson Santos – MCC Manager
He holds a Bachelor degree on Electrical Engineering at Federal University of Uberlandia. More than 10 years as an electrical engineer with background maintenance and customer services at EMBRAER. Skilled at leading and working within a team to develop technical support for a new generation of regional jets. Demonstrated ability to build report and resolve complex issues among clients and aviation regulatory authorities (FAA, CTA, EASA, TCCA). Airline operation environment skills. Structures and system training on EMB 170/190 Embraer jet family. Responsible for EMB 190 technical support at Jet Blue Airlines. He was the EMBRAER Field Service Representative at JetBlue developed and conducted training, SB retrofit schedules, field data analyses to support solution development to solve EMB 190 technical field issue. Experienced in the operational and infra-structure areas leadership, flexible facing a big range of management changes. High quality analysis and negotiation skills, ready to face challenging situations, motivating teams, developing projects and implanting processes and structures. He started his career with VARIG in 1974 as an Airport Manager Assistance, Airport Manager at Guarulhos Ainternational Airport, Operational Control Center General Manager, and Airport Structure General Manager. In 2007 he was invited to join FLEX Airlines as a Manager of Training Center in São Paulo.
