Azul – The airline company that you have chosen
On March 27, 2008, David Neeleman announced that Brazil was to get a new airline. On this occasion, in São Paulo, the executive presented plans to create not just another company but a fresh, new company. New in the sense that it will be taking on the business of air transportation. New in that it is ordering more comfortable and advanced aircraft, designed and manufactured – with great pride – in Brazil: the ultramodern Embraer 195.
Also new as it is inviting you to take part in the design of the features which differentiate our product. We are launching today the website www.voceescolhe.com.br, remove link, leave as text. We invited you to help us build the newest airline company in Brazil. We began by asking you to send us your suggestions for the company name. With your support, the idea took off: the campaign saw over 108 thousand registrations and 157,528 votes.
In the second phase, we chose the top 10 names and asked for your vote. It was a straight contest between Samba (with a slightly higher vote) and Azul. In the end, the group of executives, led by David Neeleman, chose Azul - Linhas Aéreas Brasileiras S.A.
The battle between the two options, Azul and Samba, was so close that the company decided to award the prize of a lifetime pass not only to the internet user who was first to send in the name “Azul” but also to the first to suggest “Samba”. Both will be able to travel for free on Azul’s jet airplanes, accompanied by a guest, for the rest of their lives. In addition to these two big winners, we gave away prizes to a further 2,000 internet users, who will also have the right to bring a guest to experience our service free of charge, when Azul goes into service in 2009. No one went away empty-handed.
On May 28, 2008, we presented our corporate identity. The map of Brazil, emblazoned proudly on the tails of our aircraft, symbolizes our willingness to serve, to unite, not only to get closer to the people of our nation but to bring them, non-stop, into a new phase of air transport history.
A new era which brings back respect for your needs. Which delivers rigorous compliance with operating standards. A new era in which, paradoxically, old ideals return to the airports and to our ultramodern aircraft. Key words such as respect, choice, comfort, modernity and above all, safety, return to the skies in the shape of the wings of Azul.
